1. What is CEIMS?
A: CEIMS (China Equitable Information Management Service) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization committed to researching and analyzing China's education system on the behalf of elite universities in Europe, the US, and Australia.
Beyond research and analyses, the primary service that CEIMS offers is an efficient and reliable authentication of documents submitted by Chinese students applying to foreign universities.
CEIMS has a proven pedigree, developed by the same team that founded ACEIS (Ameson Chinese Elite Identification Scheme) in 2003. Since that time, ACEIS has successfully served as a screening mechanism for Chinese students entering the University of Cambridge, University of Melbourne, and University of Bristol, among others.
2. Who currently uses CEIMS?
A: At present CEIMS is being used at 11 elite universities. These are: University of Cambridge; University of Bristol; University of Warwick; University of Auckland; Durham University; University of Edinburgh; Aston University; Royal Holloway University of London; University of Glasgow; University of Melbourne; Nanyang Technological University.
3. What is the purpose of this non-profit endeavor?
A: CEIMS (China Equitable Information Management Service) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization that is funded by the Ameson Education and Culture Exchange Foundation (AECEF). Since its creation in 1994, the AECEF has worked in cooperation with central authorities like the Chinese Ministries of Education and Culture to help disseminate Chinese culture and education throughout the world.
4. How does CEIMS verify documents?
A: After receiving documents from applicants, CEIMS reviews them using a screening system that involves spot investigations, direct correspondence with schools, and information sourcing via our government contacts.
5. What does CEIMS charge students?
A: CEIMS is a non-profit service and thus does not charge anythingem> to students, aside from nominal fees for the mailing and handling of documents.
6. What advantage does the CEIMS system offer to foreign universities?
A: In essence, we offer a proven authentication system that can help western universities handle the increasing number of students applying for entry from China. In addition, we also help to bridge the gap between western university standards and Chinese cultural and educational policies, in order to provide western admissions officers a coherent understanding of an applicant’s true quality.
7. Why is a screening process recommended for Chinese students?
A: It is estimated that more than 200,000 Chinese gain admission to foreign universities every year, and this number is expected to grow to 300,000 by 2010. Unfortunately, as the numbers increase, so too does the number of fraudulent document submissions.
In brief, CEIMS helps top schools maintain their academic standards and integrity, while at the same time meeting their Chinese enrolment targets in an efficient and reliable manner.
8. What does CEIMS supply to its members?
A: All CEIMS members are provided access to the following information:
1) A full analysis of all of China’s main high schools. Each school profile includes student numbers past and present; the school's ranking in its city/province; alumni achievements; and notable student programs. In addition, members will also receive an annually updated listing that ranks China’s top high schools nationally.
2) A complete overview of China’s main academic competitions. Included in this report is information about competition sponsors, event times and dates; the number of participants; number of prizes; a collection of media reports; plus a lot more. 3) Information about GAOKAO (the exam for entrance into Chinese universities). This report includes an analysis of how GAOKAO policies differ from western ones; the subjects covered and how they are scored; the meaning and significance of scores; and a general overview of the system.
4) A regularly updated briefing that tracks Chinese educational reforms and Chinese university admission policy changes (both of which occur frequently), and also case studies of fraudulent activities (committed by both Chinese students and schools).
5) Assistance helping schools disseminate their school materials, via our website and newsletter service (these services reach hundreds of elite Chinese high schools and subsequently tens of thousands of quality student candidates for overseas study).
6) Ten (10) student documents investigated and verified on your behalf (additional verification services during the 1-year membership term costs an extra USD$20 per document). Thus, during CEIMS members' normal processing of Chinese students, any documents that come across as suspicious can be verified quickly as part of their membership service.
9.How do universities get access to CEIMS services?
A: A standard membership costs USD$260. This fee includes use of all CEIMS services, plus 10 authentication checks done on student-submitted documents (you are free to use our authentication service any time you are unsure of a document's authenticity or true value). Beyond the 10 document authentications included in the membership package, each additional student document needing verifications costs USD$20.
To purchase a membership, users must register for an account, and then submit payment via check or bank transfer (we will communicate the details to you in person, once you have signed up via this website). After CEMIS processes your application and receives your fee, you will be sent a user ID and password. Once you log in, you will receive full access to all 'members only' sections of this website.
10. Can universities get benefits from CEIMS without becoming a member?
A: Yes. Universities can request students to have their documents verified by CEIMS. However, to enjoy the full services of this website, a paid membership is required.
